Partido Popular Muslim councillor resigns after 15 years

Fátima Mohamed Kaddur says she feels manipulated and abandoned by the party
45year old Fátima M. Kaddur, the Partido Popular’s Muslim Councillor since 2003 in the Sevilla municipality of Gines, has announced her resignation from the party.
‘They have used me, manipulated me, and thrown me away’, she said, adding that in the P.P. there is not place for integration, equality, or multiculturalism. She said that the party had used a photo with her when it suited them, but then they had turned their back and vetoed her. She has been a party activist for 15 years.
Originally from Melilla, Fátima has presented her wish to leave the party in writing, and says she would like to remain in politics while
she has the support of the public, adding that she will join ‘any other
party’ which respects her ideology. She claims that she has been
waiting for two years for a meeting with Javier Arenas, the PP leader in Andalucía.
It has been the party’s recent attitude to the use of the hiyab by the
Madrid schoolgirl, Najwa Malha, which appears to have been too much for the councillor who has always used the headscarf herself in public life. Her departure leaves the PP in a minority on the local council in Gines.
PP General Secretary in Andalucía, Antonio Sanz, denied any discrimination and said she was leaving because of ‘tensions’ in the
drawing up of the electoral candidate lists. He claimed the party had
the maximum respect for Muslims.
